In this competition, the Mehtimäki area refers to a diverse center for leisure, sports, and physical activity located just one kilometer from Joensuu Market Square. The area includes, among other things, the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu campus), several sports facilities (for example, Joensuu Areena, a baseball stadium, an ice rink, an athletics field, Beach Volley courts, and a skating rink), Laulurinne, Linnunlahti Beach and the nearby outdoor recreation areas. In addition, the Mehtimäki area features a Science Park, several restaurants, parking areas, and a parking garage.
